Alece Haynes Key, 78, beloved wife and mother, went to meet her Lord on July 7, 2020. Alece was born in North Wilkesboro, NC to Paul H. Haynes and Clara Wiles Haynes on May 20,1942. She graduated high school at North Wilkes High School in 1960. During high school, she was a star basketball player.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Wilson Denver Key and her two sons, Charles Brian Key (Beth) and Michael Denver Key (Elena); one Sister, Mrs. Marilyn Walklett (William) and five beloved grandchildren, Robyn Alece Key (19), Charles Ethan Key (17), Erin Kathleen Key(14), Olivia Victoria Key(6), and Alexander Denver Key (3). Alece died from the destructive ravages of Alzheimer’s disease.
During her life as a homemaker, she endured six years by herself, during the formative years of her son Brian, while Denver was a prisoner of war in North Vietnam. During this time, she was active in the League of Families of POWs. She was active in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Arlington, Virginia, and was youth group leader for several years with Denver. During this time, she was instrumental in resettling 15 Cambodian refugees in the Arlington area.
She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters: William Paul Haynes, Betty Hall, Nancy Gwinith Gregg, and Janet Lowder.
A memorial service will be conducted at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Haven Hospice in Orange Park, Florida.
