Andrew “Drew” Dallas Hutchison, 35, peacefully passed away on the evening of Thursday, June 25, 2020, at his home in Green Cove Springs, Florida.
Andrew was born on July 17, 1984, in Orange Park, Florida, to Frank Leroy Hutchison and Susan Elizabeth Hutchison née Sharpe.
Andrew attended Lake Asbury Elementary School, Middleburg Elementary School, Wilkinson Junior High School, and graduated from Middleburg High School in 2002. He had attended classes at St. Johns River State College and was pursuing a degree in accounting from Colorado Technical University.
Andrew was a member of the Middleburg United Methodist Church.
Andrew was involved in a life-changing vehicular accident on the evening of Sunday, February 8, 2004, on I-95 in Liberty County, Georgia. He lost his best friend, Harley Walls, in the accident, and sustained injuries to his back and spinal cord that left him paralyzed from the chest down for the remainder of his life. Despite a rather pessimistic prognosis from his doctors at the time, Andrew was able to continue living a full and happy life for an additional 16 years.
Andrew was always extremely active when he was young, playing soccer and baseball in various school and local youth leagues. He was also a long-time animal lover, having grown up in a home with many dogs, cats, hamsters, goats, horses, and even a llama. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, as well, and had discussed with his family that he would struggle with knowing how to kill the animals he tracked in the quickest and most humane way possible. He also took great pride in respectfully doing his best to use every possible part of the animal he had caught. He had also said that he would sometimes go hunting, but just end up spending his time in the field simply watching nature from the concealment of a hunting blind.
Andrew had been most recently employed with Comcast, providing customer service and selling a variety of telecommunications products and services to customers across the country.
Andrew will be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know him for his generous spirit and practical approach to life. He was blessed with an abundance of curiosity, love, and kindness, and did his best to teach those qualities to his three children, Aiden, Alexis, and Alyssa, whom he loved and cherished more than words could ever express. His children meant the world to him even before they were born, and he demonstrated that at every available opportunity.
Andrew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herbert Dallas Sharpe & Jayne Marie Sharpe, and Emmett “Mike” Crist Howard III & Rose Evelyn Howard.
Andrew is survived by his father, Frank Hutchison (Sally Mills); his mother, Susan Frame née Sharpe (Daniel Frame); his brothers, Ryan Sprouse-Hutchison, Kevin Joestgen (Alex Joestgen), and Ethan Frame; his son, Aiden; his two daughters, Alexis and Alyssa; his ex-wife, Ashley Johns; his close friends, Bryan & Jenny Grell, and Bryan & Stephanie Grell; his service dog, Relay; his foster dog, Stella; and his cat, Elsa.
Memorial services have been temporarily delayed due to the ongoing threat of COVID-19, but his family hopes to have the opportunity to hold a memorial service open to the public as soon as might be reasonably and safely possible. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you instead consider making a donation in his name to The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis ( https://www.themiamiproject.org/ ).
