Archer Graham Fitch, age 88, died of natural causes on Thursday, February 13th, 2020, in Fleming Island, Florida.
Arch is survived by his daughter Emily Lipscomb (Douglas) of Fleming Island; his son, Brian (Jami) of Green Cove Springs, Florida; and his son, Frank (Sharon) of Canton, Ohio; and by his grandchildren Jennifer and Thomas Lipscomb and Erin and Courtney Fitch. He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Eileen Fitch nee Clegg, of Fleming Island; his four brothers and four sisters, of New Mexico and Arizona.
Arch was born on March 1, 1931, in Hachita, New Mexico, to parents Albert and Frances. He graduated from New Mexico A&MA (now New Mexico State) on June 2, 1952 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and accepted a position as an Electrical Engineer at Westinghouse, successfully rising through the management ranks where he worked for more than 37 years, retiring in 1989.
Arch served his country in the US Army from 1955 through 1957, working on power generation systems for the Distance Early Warning (DEW Line), walking guard duty and peeling potatoes.
Arch was a great family man and a loving father. He married Barbara in 1956 and the couple had three children together.
Arch was a hardworking, active man all his life rising from relative poverty to prosperity. He enjoyed home improvement projects, golf, and Pittsburgh Steeler football. His family and friends will always, remember him as a kind and generous person.
Per his wishes, Arch is to be cremated, with a small, family graveside service to be conducted at a date to be determined later. His remains will be buried next to Barbara’s at the Jacksonville Memory Gardens, in Orange Park, Florida. In lieu of flowers, a charitable offering in his name is suggested for Clay County Safe Animal Shelter or the charity of your choice.
