Arlene Putman, 98 years old, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 11, 2022. She was born to parents Melchior Schild and Margaret M. Schlappy on April 24, 1923 in Carbondale, PA.
She graduated High School in Albany, NY. She was enlisted in the US Navy from September 1943 until March 1946 as a Yeoman Second Class, W.A.V.E., where she met her future husband, Richard E. Putman. They were married on April 19, 1947 and celebrated 46 years of marriage before her husband’s passing in 1993.
She enjoyed golfing, crocheting, and needlepoint and playing solitaire. She is truly remembered for her love of the NY Yankees. She watched every game possible. She also never missed a baseball game or golf match that her grandson Kyle played the past 20 years.
She was a charter member of the Fleming Island Methodist Church starting at Paterson Elementary School then moving to Chapel on Rt. 17, now called Grace Place.
She is preceded in death by her husband, 4 brothers and 1 sister.
She is survived by 2 sons and 1 daughter, Bruce Putman (MaryLou) of Englewood, FL, Kenneth Putman (Marylee) of Ft. Myers, FL, and Tina Jewett (Tom Jewett) of Fleming Island, FL; 6 grandchildren, Carrie Ann Roberge, Tabitha Reed, Micha Putman, Timothy Putman, Ruthanne Kowalski and Kyle Jewett; and 5 great-grandchildren, Tripp Roberge, Bryce Roberge, Esther Putman, Naomi Putman and Phoebe Putman.
Funeral Services will be held at Fleming Island Methodist Church on April 24, 2022 at 2:00 pm in Grace Place Chapel.
