Bernard William Glade Jr. “Buzz” died in peace on October 16, 2018. Buzz was born in Galveston, TX on April 3, 1945, graduated from Lufkin High School and received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy, graduating in 1968. He married his high school sweetheart, Susan Clarke, in 1969 and served during the Vietnam War as a C-130 pilot. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and four Air Medals. He dedicated majority of his professional career to founding and operating Phoenix Commercial Corp., an Orange Park based construction company. Buzz had many interests: an active alumnus of USAFA; an avid cyclist; an outdoorsman- hiking, hunting, archery; board member of Clay County Habitat for Humanity; member of the Clay County Planning Commission. He was a skilled craftsman and pilot, building three airplanes which he flew until the very end. He was a devoted husband, proud father, fun-loving grandfather, and faithful member of Grace Anglican Church.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Susan Glade; children and spouses, Stephen Glade and Sandra Wong of Freemont, CA, David and Jennifer Glade of Alexandria, VA, Karen and Tim Tinnesz of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Grace, Katherine Jane, John, Will, Sara, Patrick, Matthew, Sean and Susan; siblings, Jane Malish, Tom Glade and John Glade.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Grace Anglican Church, 5804 HWY 17, Fleming Island, 32003.
