(Betty) Joan Barton, 87, of Orange Park, FL, went home to be with the Lord April 20, 2018. She was born in Hannibal, Missouri on August 6, 1930 to the late Roy William and Nellie Byrd (Griffith) Riegel. Mrs. Barton had been a long-time resident of Quincy, IL where she had been a member of Union United Methodist Church and then Lighthouse Baptist Church. In 2005, she moved to the Jacksonville area to be near family and had attended Prince of Peace Charismatic Episcopal Church. She dearly loved her grandchildren, enjoyed singing in the church choir, volunteering, and being a homemaker. While living at Life Care Center of Orange Park, she was known for her joyful singing, quick wit, love of music, and sweet disposition. She won the title of Miss Senior Clay County 2014. Joan was a prayerful mother who had a love for and a close relationship with Jesus - this was her great gift to her family and friends.
Mrs. Barton was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Barton, in 2005. She is survived by her daughters, Pamela M. Graham and Beverly J. Spence; her son, Bruce W. Barton; brothers, Maurice Riegel and Robert Riegel; sisters, Bernice Richmond and Jean Wammack; grandchildren, Natalie Adams, Lauren Sima, Spencer Graham, and Claire Graham.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Prince of Peace Charismatic Episcopal Church.
