Billy Joe Hysmith

Billy Joe Hysmith, 68 of Fleming Island, Fl, passed away June 16, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 9, 1951 in Spartanburg, S.C. to the late C.H. Hysmith and Hesther Hysmith.

 

Billy was married to his wife Lynn Hysmith for 48yrs. Billy left behind two loving children: Tonya Kinney from Jacksonville, Fl and Travis Hysmith from Jacksonville, Fl. He was a “Pop” to three grandchildren: Gavin Kinney, Sarah Kinney, and Chancey Kinney. He is survived by his two sisters: Linda Calloway from Jacksonville, Fl, Darlene McMillian from South Carolina and one brother Ricky Hysmith from South Carolina.

 

Billy graduated from Boiling Springs High School. Twenty-one years later he then retired from the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Maintenance Engineer. During this time in the Navy he served in: NTC Orlando, Fl, NATTC Memphis, Tn, RVAH-3 Key West, Fl, VQ-4 PAX River, Md, VS-31 Cecil Field, Fl, NRD Columbia, SC, VR-24, Sigonella, Sicily, Chaw-1 Cecil Field, Fl.

 

Billy loved the outdoors, either fishing on his boat “Linda Lynn” riding his motorcycle, traveling, and sitting in his garage listening to the radio. He had an imagination like no other with his grandchildren. He was an awesome and loving husband, father, and grandfather.  Billy loved his “girls” (dogs) Izzy and Joy. Billy also attended All Saints Chapel on N.A.S. Jax.

 

In lieu of flowers the family would like to request donation to be made to the Wounded Warriors.

 

A memorial service with full military honors will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, June 22, 2019 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Chaplain Chan Williams officiating.
