Bonnie Ann (Burkhalter) Houldson went home to be with the Lord on July 21, 2019 after fighting a 6-year battle from three very rare forms of cancer which baffled every doctor that treated her.
Bonnie was born on December 10, 1973 in Palatka, FL to parents, David Burkhalter and Glenda Baker.
She was a lifelong resident of Clay County, FL working as an ER Trauma Nurse for almost 20 years and also in Labor and Delivery at Orange Park Medical Center, Shand’s of Jacksonville, Baptist Medical Center South and Downtown as well as Acute Care at Kindred Hospital, Green Cove Springs and as a nurse with the Clay County Sheriff’s Department in the jail. She normally worked on a PRN status, which means she was on call to go wherever she was needed. On her own time, she was a counselor to unwed mothers, teaching them to care for their babies and often going to the store and buying items they needed with her own money. She also filled in as a substitute teacher at Clay High when she was needed.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, Rodney Houldson; their three children, Tayler Noelle, Jerrod Evan and Faithe Elizabeth; father, David Burkhalter (Linda); mother, Glenda Baker (Maxie); mother-in-law, Patricia Houldson; sister-in-law, Aprille Houldson-Coursin (Phil and boys); uncles, Alan Gillies (Debbie) and Randy Burkhalter (Sheila); great-aunts, Kathleen Lynch and Wanda Mandrell; as well as numerous cousins too numerous to name.
She is preceded in death by grandparents, Jim and Juanita Gillies, C.M. and Anne Burkhalter, and Eileen Gross and Eleanor (Houldson) Nuxoll; father-in-law, Jerry Houldon; uncles, Gene Houldson and Kirk Lawson; and great-uncles, Louis Lynch and Ben Mandrell.
There have been many requests on how donations can be made to the family. The family asks that if you wish to do so, a donation can be made to THE MASTOCYTOSIS SOCIETY (www.tmsforacure.org) for further medical research of her very rare disease.
A private Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a later date.
Cremation is being performed by Broadus-Raines Funeral Home. The family would like to thank David Broadus, personally, and his staff for their kindness during this difficult time.
