Carol Ann Sammons, 59, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on February 21, 2025, after a courageous battle with a long-term illness, supported by the compassionate caregivers of Community Hospice. Born on May 26, 1965, in Albany, New York, to Veronica L. Scott and John S. Rector, Carol led a life marked by dedication and service.
Carol graduated with a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from Alfred University. Upon graduation, she joined the US Navy Nurse Corps, where she achieved the rank of LTJG before separating from service. She was married for many years to Danford E. Sammons III of Newport, Rhode Island.
A devout Christian, Carol's faith was a cornerstone of her life. In her younger years, she was an avid athlete, playing soccer for her alma mater. After marrying and starting a family, she found joy in crafting, scrapbooking, sewing, and cooking. Carol will be remembered for her kind and sweet demeanor, always welcoming to others.
Carol was preceded in death by her loving mother, Veronica “Ronnie” Scott. She is survived by her son, Danford E. Sammons IV; her daughters, Caitlin Sammons and Hannah Sammons of Orlando, Florida; her sister, Lori L. Bowe (Kenneth) of Green Cove Springs, Florida; her niece, Kali Cavanagh Malone (John) of Cincinnati, Ohio; and her grandchildren, Payton, Elijah, and Joshua Jr., who lovingly knew her as Grandma.
Funeral services will be held on March 17, 2025, at 2:30 PM at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 US 1, Mims, FL 32754. The service will be held graveside with a Navy Chaplain officiating, and an Honor Guard will play Taps and present the American Flag to the next of kin.”
