Carolyn Withrow Sewell

Carolyn Withrow Sewell passed peacefully at Penney Farms, FL on December 9th, 2024, after a long illness. Carolyn was born in Richmond, Virginia on September 4th, 1938, to Archie Alexander Withrow and Annie Lee Chandler Withrow. She was an outstanding student as well as a cheerleader at her high school. She met her future husband and love of her life, Sidney Rouse Sewell, in 1958 as he was earning his MD at the Medical College of Virginia. They married on June 6, 1960. Carolyn and Sid had three children, Alex, Elizabeth and Evan, as well as one grandchild, Helen. 

Carolyn and family lived for many years in Orange Park, FL, and they retired to Penney Farms, FL, in 2019. 

She served as the president of several officers’ wives’ clubs while Sid was in the Navy and also volunteered to help with the Meals on Wheels program. She was active in her church and held several positions. After Sid retired from the Navy, she also volunteered with the National Alliance on Mental Illness and frequently taught classes for that organization.

She enjoyed traveling, singing, sewing, gardening and collecting antique furniture. She also enjoyed vacationing in the mountains of North Carolina with Sid, her children and her grandchild.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Elizabeth and her devoted husband of 62 years, Sid. She is survived by her youngest son, Evan; as well as her oldest son Alex; his wife, Debra and their daughter, Helen.
