Cecil Wayne Sowell

February 19, 1957 — April 28, 2022

Cecil Wayne Sowell, age 65, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family on April 28, 2022, after a long battle with health issues.

Cecil was born on February 19, 1957, in Jacksonville, Florida, to parents Lewis Sowell, Jr., and Yvonne Cothern Sowell. He grew up on the westside and attended Forrest High School. He worked for over thirty years as a truck driver for Scales Express and lived out his life in the Clay county area. He was an avid gun collector who loved NASCAR, fishing/hunting, and do-it-yourself projects. He was known for “wheeling and dealing,” always proud of negotiating a good deal. Cecil was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, especially his children. He was known for his witty and charming nature and made people laugh everywhere he went.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Sowell; five children, Danielle Sowell Bridges (Aaron), Ciara Sowell (Dave), Ashley Sowell, Elijah Sowell, and Carl Alexander Wright; and six grandchildren, AJ, Gabby, Rauley, Lilly, Cason, and Evelyn; mother, Yvonne Cothern Sowell; and five siblings, Patricia Rock (Julian), Donna Kay Gagne, Vicki Jo Gibson (Dennis), Jeffery Sowell, and Larry Sowell.

Cecil was a good man whose word was his bond. He loved his children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial at Green Cove Spring park Sunday, June 5th from 11am-2pm. We will gather, laugh, cry, eat, share memories and go fishing. Everyone is encouraged to bring a pole and some bait.
