Charles Merville Thompson, Jr., age 67, passed away on December 10, 2024 in Jacksonville, Florida. Chase, as he was known to family and friends, was born on April 28, 1957 to Charles and Joanne Thompson. He is survived by his mother, Joanne Thompson and his sister, Polly Thompson.
Chase graduated from Bolles High School in Jacksonville and was a member of the golf and swimming team. Chase loved to swim and continued swimming throughout his life. He graduated from the University of Florida where he was a member of the SAE fraternity. Chase earned a degree in Finance and after graduation went to work at his father’s Finance and Money Management firm.
Chase loved to work in his yard, and his father, who was a master gardener, taught him how to grow roses. It became a specialty of Chase’s, and he often gifted friends with a bouquet of the most beautiful roses.
Chase loved to go on golf trips and once traveled to Scotland with his father to play some of Scotland’s legendary golf courses. He also loved to fish and took a yearly fishing trip with his cousins to catch (or at least try to catch!) specks in Central Florida.
Chase was an avid Gator fan, and for many years he rarely missed attending a home game. Chase was a skilled poker player and enjoyed the camaraderie of playing at the Orange Park poker room. Chase claimed he always knew when to hold and when to fold’em.
Chase was a kind person with a big heart. If a neighbor needed help, Chase was there, especially for his elderly neighbors.
There will be a private, family service, and in lieu of flowers, those who wish to express sympathy may send memorials to Ortega United Methodist Church at https://ortegachurch.org/
