Cherie Renee McClain (Peery), 54 of Middleburg, Florida, passed away Friday, September 8, 2023, at her home following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Cherie was born June 9, 1969, to James and Cheryl Peery in Denver, Colorado. As a child, the family moved to Middleburg while her dad was still in the Navy. Cherie initially started a career as an automobile insurance agent in Jacksonville. She eventually moved back to Middleburg when her daughter was young.
Cherie loved a good party, bonfires, cookouts, and a Crown drink. She deeply cherished her daughter, Kacee Renee. She enjoyed time at the beach and going to Daytona to attend car shows with her life partner, Lee Ayers, and close friends. After her grandson, Walker Carter was born she adored being his GIGI and spent time swimming in the pool and reading to him. She liked the outdoors and Jeep rides with her best friend Diana Jimmison. She loved spending time with her family, looking after others and ensured her mom was always taken care of.
Cherie was a loving, kind, and carefree spirit who never met a stranger. She was a good mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many who gave the best hugs and had a beautiful smile.
Cherie is survived by her daughter, Kacee McClain and grandson, Walker; her partner of 17 years, Lee Ayers of Middleburg, Florida; sisters, Melanie (Scott) Callaway of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Lori (Phil) Curnalia of Green Cove Springs, Florida, Anne Reddish of Orange Park, Florida; Aunt Charlotte Russell of South Dakota, and Uncle Greg Dirks of Middleburg, Florida. She was the “fun aunt” to lots of nieces and nephews and had an extended circle of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kyleigh Carter; grandparents, Shirley and George English; brother, Jaun Peery; nephew, Josh Peery; her father, James Peery and her mother, Cheryl Peery who went to Heaven on September 6, 2023, to ensure she was there to greet Cherie.
The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this journey. Cherie was a fighter until the end with a strong spirit. We will miss Cherie immensely, but know she had faith in Jesus, and we have the promise we will be together again.
