Clyde Rock “Rocky” McReynolds, Jr., was born in Dante, Virginia, on December 26, 1950. He went to Heaven on February 1, 2025, at the age of 74.
Rocky was a beloved husband. He met his wife, Carol (McGee) McReynolds, at Tennessee Temple College, and they were married for fifty-three years. He was known for his love of the Tennessee Volunteers, his passion for sports, and his love for his Saviour. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and for his kind and generous heart.
At the age of eighteen months, Rocky contracted spinal meningitis and lost his hearing. This did not limit him. He was educated at the Tennessee School for the Deaf in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he was named a Deaf All-American in football. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from Tennessee Temple College, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and a Master of Education in Special Education from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida.
Rocky taught mathematics and was an assistant coach for several years at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine, Florida. He later went on to work as a tax examiner with the US Treasury department, retiring after more than twenty years.
Rocky was a faithful member of Berean Baptist Church, where he started the Deaf Sunday school class and later served as the Deaf Pastor for nearly eighteen years. He experienced declining health in recent years, but he was able to attend Immanuel Baptist Church by the Deaf livestream services.
Rocky was preceded in death by his mother, Annalee (Johnson) Tipton, and stepfather, Bill J. Tipton; his father, Clyde R. McReynolds, Sr.; and his sister Virginia Osborne. He is survived by his wife, Carol (McGee) McReynolds; his sisters Lorraine Susan Litton and Rachel Hooven; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in the Broadus-Raines Chapel in Green Cove Springs, Florida, on February 11, 2025. The viewing will be at 10:00 a.m., with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will follow at the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Green Cove Springs, Florida.
