September 27, 1933 – January 13, 2019

 

Commander Cager W. Campbell, USN Ret., passed away Sunday January 13, 2019 in the Moosehaven Health Care Center at the age of 85.

 

Cager was born and raised in Laurens, S.C.

 

He enlisted in the Navy at the young age of 18 as an Aviation Ordinanceman.  During his 36 years of military service from 1952 to 1988, he rose from an Airman Recruit to Commander.

 

He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal, just to name a few.

 

Cager served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars touring in the Middle East, Pakistan, Iraq, Japan, and throughout Europe.  Stateside he was assigned to numerous Duty stations throughout the United States including San Diego, CA, Patuxent River, MD, Corpus Christi, TX, NAS Jacksonville and Cecil Field.  During his final assignment in Kingsville, TX where he headed AIMD with over 350 personnel, they won the Chief of Naval Air Training Command AIMD Award of Excellence (CNATRA) prior toretiring to Jacksonville, FL. in 1988.

 

He is survived by his loving wife Patricia, their two children, daughter Melissa Creel her husband, Chuck and son Charles and his wife, Joan Campbell and 2 granddaughters Caroline and Hillary.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30AM (Lane 1) on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the National Cemetery where he will receive full military honors.
