Emblem

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Darrell P. Mathews, who left this world to be with our Lord and Savior on September 20, 2024. A graduate of Carlsbad High School in New Mexico, Darrell joined the U.S. Navy as an Ordnance Mechanic Seaman and served honorably in Vietnam. Following his military service, he began a career in the oil industry as a pipe inspector, later transitioning to a truck driver, where he transported oil until the end of his working life.

Darrell had a profound love for his land and animals, dedicating many years to their care. He also cherished time spent by the water, enjoying strolls around the lake, fishing, and waterskiing. A lover of long drives down country roads, he embraced the beauty of nature. Those who knew Darrell appreciated his straightforward demeanor, his ornery side, and his big heart. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Darrell is survived by his children, Shauna Mathews and Kevin Mathews (Rebekka), as well as six grandchildren: Darren Mathews (Rachel), Crocket Williams, Devan Williams (Teema), Austin Mathews (Callie), Peyton Mathews, and Kenedy Mathews. He was also blessed with three great-granddaughters. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Harrell Mathews (Cynthia), and two sisters: Merlene London (Steve) and Shirley Lingle (Bruce).

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Mervil and Jewell Mathews of Carlsbad, NM, as well as ten aunts and uncles and three cousins from Texas and Arkansas.
