David M. Brooks 64, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, passed away July 19, 2017 He was born on February 26, 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Donald I. Brooks and Mary Kathleen (Butler) Brooks. David was a graduate of Sebring High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1972, and was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict and Desert Storm. He served proudly for his country for “28 years, 1 month and 19 days”. In 2000, he retired with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He worked for Logistic Services International, Inc. (LSI) for several years as a Subject Matter Expert and then as the Electrical Pro at Lowe’s Home Improvement. David enjoyed fishing, boating and being outdoors. He was an avid fan of his Florida Gators, New York Mets and NASCAR. David was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Kenneth A. Brooks. David is survived by his love and best friend, Jan Workman of Green Cove Springs, Florida; His children, Lea M. Rhoden (Michael) of Macclenny, Florida, Bryan Brooks (Lissa) of Tacoma, Washington and Crystal Brooks (Brian Vega) of Green Cove Springs, Florida; His sisters, Donna Carlisle (Kenneth) of Crossville, Tennessee, Janet Long (Greg) of Haines City, Florida, and Michelle Brooks (Michael Walstrom) of Sebring, Florida; His aunt, Betty Sobecki (Bill) of Citra, Florida; His uncle, Paul Brooks (Ellie) of Blairsville, Georgia; His eight grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Middleburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Brian Sanderson officiating. A small reception will follow in the Family Life Center. On Friday, August 4, 2017, Full Military Honors will begin at 10:30am at the Jacksonville National Cemetery with Pastor Stephen Hollander officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in David’s honor to the American Cancer Society or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
