David "Dave" Michael Casey

May 31, 1953 — October 12, 2023

David “Dave” Michael Casey, 70, of Green Cove Springs, passed away on October 12th after a brief illness.  David was born on May 31, 1953 to Hester and Edward Casey. After college, David went on to begin his career with the United States National Park Service.  There, he served for 38 years sharing a passion for caring for many of our nations’ special places and sharing their stories.  These included Fort Caroline National Memorial, Big Cypress National Preserve, Virgin Islands National Park, Canaveral National Seashore, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, Great Basin National Park, and Cumberland Island National Seashore.  David also spent many summers through the course of his career as a wildland firefighter in the mountains and forests in various regions of the United States.  As a young teenager, David met who would be his forever sweetheart, Susan Dunn when they were teenagers in Jacksonville, Florida.  Years later, the two were married in 1974 and went on to have two children, Angela and Adam.  David and Susan were married for 49 years.  After 38 years of hard work and dedication to the people of the United States, David retired from the National Park Service and was able to do the things he loved the most:  boat, fish and scallop, watch baseball, and smoke cigars while listening to music near or on the water.  David was known to be able to fix and build anything, was an expert about nature, a grill master, and loved to join in live music playing his harmonica or violin.  David was predeceased by his mother and father.  He is survived by his wife Susan, children Angela Quiggins (Michael) and Adam Casey (Jennifer), brother Wade Casey (Carolyn), sister Joanna Hogan (Richard), grandchildren (Carter, Kellen, and Sadie Quiggins), and many other relatives and friends.   The family will notify loved ones in the in future when a service is scheduled. Donations in lieu of flowers should be made to Haven Hospice, 821 Blanding Boulevard, Orange Park, FL 32065.
