Delmar Henry "Papa" Lewis, born July 19, 1921 passed away January 10, 2020 at age 98. A patriotic American, Delmar served as a U.S. Marine in WW2 and bravely fought in the Pacific. He never thought of himself as a hero but was simply "doing his duty". After returning home from the war, he and his wife Opal raised a son (Delmar) and daughter (Sharon). He retired from the Army and then retired from the Post Office many years later. He and Opal enjoyed 76 years of marriage before she preceded him in death in 2017. During their long marriage, they lived in Africa, traveled in their camper with grandkids, and hosted countless holiday gatherings at their house for their large family They were warm, loving, generous, and will be deeply missed by the many family members they leave behind.
A graveside inurnment with military honors for Delmar and his late wife, Opal, will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
