In Loving Memory of Donald Joe Powell

08/04/1952 – 02/11/2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Don, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and cherished friend, who left this world on Tuesday, Feb 11th. His unwavering kindness, strength, and love touched all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and compassion.

Born on August 4th, 1952 in Orange, Texas Don moved around much as a young child of a military family. He settled in Florida late in high school and began his family in Jacksonville. He is survived by his wife, Kathi Jowers Powell, of 29 years, his three children, Neil (Kristina), Sharon (Sarmad) and Haley (Connor), stepdaughter, Emily (Wade), twelve grandchildren, his brother, Mike (Stephanie) Powell, and his Mother, Virginia Powell. His love for his family kept his spirits high, especially later in life when he struggled in immense physical pain. Don was a licensed General Contractor, who spent forty years in the commercial building construction business. He worked on many of the hospitals, churches and other large buildings in Jacksonville. He was an entertainer at heart, who loved to sing and play the guitar, and as a young man was both an actor in New York City and the Alhambra in Jacksonville. He was an avid Gator fan, who coached many young men and women in baseball, football, softball and soccer over many years. He wasn’t shy about sharing his wisdom with his family or simply making those around him laugh.

Though our hearts ache in his absence, we find solace in the countless memories he gifted us. His love and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

A service to honor Don’s life will be held on Sunday, March 2nd at 2 pm at River Christian Church in Fleming Island, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to River Christian Church in his memory.

Rest in peace, Don. We pray you can walk without pain in the presence of the Lord. You were deeply loved and you will be profoundly missed.
