Dorothy "Dot" K. Wolgemuth

March 8, 1929 — February 1, 2023

Dorothy Jane Wolgemuth, 93 years young passed away peacefully on February 1, 2023. She was born Dorothy Jane Knowles to parents Thomas L. and Maggie E. Knowles on March 8, 1929 in Green Cove Springs, Florida.

She was a proud graduate of Clay High School’s Class of 1947; Dottie was faithfully married to Melvin L. Wolgemuth for 47 wonderful years. Known as ‘Wally’ and ‘Dottie’, they both loved each other dearly and enjoyed traveling different places to enjoy the sites and the frequent cup of coffee and a slice of pie. Dottie had a servant’s heart and served or worked as a medical assistant at the Green Cove Springs Doctor’s Office.

Dottie was a faithful member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, where she served on the bereavement and food committee. This committee, nicknamed by Pastor Russell Franklin as the ‘Can-Do-Kitchen-Crew’, faithfully provided meals for shut-ins, funerals and for organized events in the community, including serving pregame meals for the Clay Football Teams.

In her early days, Dottie was known for her love for bowling and boating and loved boat rides up Black Creek to enjoy the Florida view. She was a leaf watcher and loved to travel to the Smokie Mountains to see the color change in the leaves during the Fall. She was shopper and maybe even a ‘shopaholic’ and enjoyed trips to Belk’s with her sister Elizabeth for the occasional ‘Belk Senior Sale’. Dottie was an advanced quilter and has stitched many a seam and ripped many a seam. She loved puzzle books and she loved family time, which included family outings and car rides with her sister Elizabeth.

Dottie will be remembered for her loving nurture, her infectious smile, her hospitality and servant’s heart. She will be remembered for her macaroni and cheese and will forever be remembered as the little lady who always had perfect hair and always had a recurring Friday hair appointment to keep that perfect hair on fleek. Yes, at the age of 93 you can be ‘on fleek’.

Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas L. and Maggie E. Knowles, husband Melvin L. Wolgemuth, sister Cora Belle Brown and nephew Stevie Brown.

Dottie is survived by stepsons Jan Wolgemuth (Doreen), Bob Wolgemuth (Rayce), and sisters Elizabeth Smith and Edna Beasley (Jerry). Dottie was Grandma to 5 step grandchildren, 7 nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

We would also like to thank and recognize Dottie’s extended Wilkes Point Family who have always been near and dear to Dottie’s heart. Thank you for your love and friendship.
