Douglas “Doug” Ruth
January 25, 1932 – December 1, 2018
Doug passed away December 1, 2018 in the Orange Park Medical Center at the age of 86.
Doug was born to Hubert and Lucille Ruth on January 25, 1932 in High Point, NC. He was the oldest of three children. He had two sisters, Velva Ann and Anita. Doug left school to help his father work on their family tobacco and dairy farm.
Doug met Clara McManus through mutual friends who set them up on a blind date. On their first date, they went to the Tar Heel Drive-In, and after dating for six months, Doug proposed to Clara during intermission at the Tar Heel Drive-In. They were married on June 15, 1951. Doug’s grandfather, who was a pastor, officiated the wedding in Hamilton, NC at exactly eight o’clock in the evening, which would have been intermission time at the Tar Heel Drive-In.
Soon after marrying, Doug and Clara moved to Orlando. Doug & his father, Hubert, started a painting business where he worked for nine years. Later, he worked assembling control panels for Electric Specialty Inc., where he retired after eighteen years. They have three children, Danny, Damon and Annette Ruth.
Doug became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose on April 19, 1984 when he joined the Orlando, FL Lodge #766.
Doug and his wife, Clara moved to Moosehaven on February 21, 2013, where he resided for over 5 years. Clara preceded Doug in death on April 10, 2016. They were married 65 years.
Doug is survived by his children, Danny L. Ruth and his wife Gwendolyn of Longwood, Damon Ruth and his wife Jennifer of Cummings, GA and Annette Ruth of Logansville, GA, and grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services held Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 1:30pm in the Moosehaven Chapel.
