Edward L. Bivins, 80 years old, of Fleming Island, FL, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2022. Ed was born June 3, 1941, in Greenville, Kentucky to the late Howard and Opal (Warren) Bivins. He proudly served in the United States army from 1959 to 1962 with most of his time spent overseas in Germany. He married the love of his life, Sandra (Farmer) in Ferndale, Michigan, on September 5, 1964. They celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage and had 3 children together. Ed was passionate about his family and his work. He was president and owner of Ed Bivins Contracting which allowed him to do what he loved everyday. He loved landscaping and gardening; his yard has always stopped people passing by to comment on how beautiful it was. He was always happy to tell you what kind of plant it is, how to grow it, and even give you part of it to start your own. Sandy will have her hands full keeping up his flowers! Upon retirement, he spent his summers in Michigan enjoying family, fishing, and walking the beaches looking for interesting rocks. Once the cool, fall breezes started he was headed back to Florida. Time in Florida was spent with his grandkids, “Papa’s Girls,” fishing, tending to his flowers, walking the beach in search of shark’s teeth (you should see his collection!), or curled up with a good book in his office. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Michael, his parents, Howard and Opal, his sister, Faye, and bothers, Bruce, Dan, and Garry. Ed is survived by his wife, Sandy, his son, Jeffrey Bivins of Blanchard, MI, his daughter, Lori (Joel) Roach of Fleming Island, FL, and three granddaughters: Jenna and Allison Roach of Fleming Island, FL, and Amanda Blakely of New Haven, Michigan. He is also survived by his sister Lana (Steve) McKinley of Lexington, KY, brother Gayle (Linda) Bivins of Cape Coral, FL, many nieces, nephews and some amazing friends. He was a member of CrossPointe Church in Fleming Island, FL.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 am – 10:00 am, Thursday, May 12, 2022 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with funeral to follow at 10:00 am to celebrate a life well-lived with Rev. Ron Baker officiating. Burial to follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 1:00 pm with military honors rendered.
In lieu of flowers, Ed wished that donations be made in his name to Haven Hospice.
