Edward “Ed” Lee Singleton Jr, 53, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on August 19, 2021, after a fierce battle with COVID-19.
Mr. Singleton was born to Betty Warden and Edward Lee Singleton Sr. on June 12, 1968 in Dyersburg, Tennessee.
He attended Dyersburg High School in Dyersburg, Tennessee. He continued his education at Dyersburg State Community College in Dyersburg, Tennessee while working as a network communications analyst.
He enjoyed scuba diving, riding his motorcycles, playing video games, spending time with his family, and helping people close to him.
He was smart and stubborn. He delighted in searching out new knowledge and refused to quit despite many obstacles. He was jolly and fun to be with. The world will not be the same without him, but we take comfort in the knowledge that he will rejoice in the presence of the better place. He will travel to places wherever he wants to be and do whatever he wants to do. He will always be missed and loved.
Ed graced CSX railroad with his genius when he joined the company back in 2015 as a Communications Technician. He was, in title and craft, a union worker. He not only came completely equipped with the tools and knowledge, but also the persistence to change the path of an entire company for the better. He brought untold efficiency improvements to decades old processes, which had never before been achieved. In his six short years at CSX, Ed quickly became part of the very lifeblood of the team at the core of operations within the organization. That team came to know Ed as family.
He touched everyone he worked with, not only on a professional level, but also a personal level. He went above and beyond and forged friendships with everyone. His unique sense of humor and engaging smile were a welcome presence. He had boundless energy, enthusiasm, and excitement for all the challenges presented to him. He was ALWAYS willing to share his knowledge, ever the teacher, trainer, mentor to those around him. We thank him for the memories to help us fill the void that he leaves behind.
Ed was a beloved husband, father, and papaw. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Melissa Singleton of Jacksonville, Fl.; three children: Matthew Singleton, Micheal Singleton (Parwitar), and Megan Singleton; three grandchildren, Madelyn, Gwynneth, and Gabriel; and brother Jerry Lynn Craig (Teresa). He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Lee Singleton Sr.
At his request, no service will be held. Instead, he asked friends and loved ones visit places where he spent time with you whenever you can. And he wanted you to know that he will be there.
