Elizabeth Johnsen, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was called home to be with the Lord on December 27, 2018 at the age of 85 in Fleming Island, Florida. Elizabeth was born in Baxley, Georgia on September 8, 1933 to parents Grady and Macy Tyre. One of seven, Elizabeth cherished her memories with her siblings and valued time spent together as a family.
Elizabeth married the love of her life, James Carl Johnsen Jr. on December 21, 1953 in Jacksonville Florida, later moving to Dyer, Indiana where they spent most of their lives. For numerous years, Elizabeth worked as an office clerk for Chapman Cleaners until her retirement. In 1999, Elizabeth and James relocated to Deltona, Florida where they spent their retirement years making memories with family and dedicating time to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elizabeth was warm-hearted and enjoyed hosting family and friends, baking and a good game of cards. She had the most amazing strength and loving heart that every single person who ever came into contact with her could feel while in her presence.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James Carl Johnsen Jr., her parents, Grady and Macy Tyre, her siblings, Bobby Tyre, Allison Buddy “Beaver” Boatwright, Alline Beckworth, and Demar “Uncle Snook” Boatwright.
She is survived and missed by her siblings, Ed (Kathy) Tyre and Bonnie Fay (Robert) Small, her sons, Dale (Theresa) Johnsen and Dave Johnsen, her grandchildren, Heather (Matt) Bradfield, Nick (Janill) Johnsen, Paul (Sophie) Johnsen, Trent and Blair Norman, her great-grandchildren, Cole and Kylee Bradfield and Harper Johnsen, and her countless friends.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at The Pentecostals of Orange Park Church on January 19, 2019 at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to the Orange Park Haven Hospice Care Center.
“A Letter from Heaven” authored by Alena Hakala Meadows
When tomorrow starts without me
And I’m not here to see;
If the sun should rise and fill your eyes
All filled with tears for me.
I wish so much you wouldn’t cry
The way you did today;
While thinking of the many things
We didn’t get to say.
I know how much you love me
As much as I love you;
Nd each time that you think of me,
I know you’ll miss me too.
When tomorrow starts without me,
Don’t think we’re far apart
For every time you think of me,
I’m right there in your heart.
