Elmer Edwin Bahr, son of Edwin and Ercell McNamee Bahr was born in Dysart, Iowa on April 25, 1928. He graduated from Dysart High School in 1946 and worked on the family farm until he joined the Army in 1950. While in Boot camp Elmer married Gloria Reimer. Elmer often said that marriage produced the two best things in his life, Tami and Randy. In 1951 he deployed to Germany and served as an Infantryman in the First Division. While deployed to Germany Elmer proved to be a gifted basketball player and he advanced from the Company team to Battalion and then Brigade. While on maneuvers in Germany Elmer suffered a serious head injury which ultimately led to a Medical discharge. Elmer took over operating the family farm until he married Marge Cox in 1985. In 1994 Elmer and Marge fulfilled their dreams and built a waterfront beach house in Fort Myers, Florida where they resided together. Elmer maintained a lifetime love affair with basketball and always rooted for the Iowa Hawkeyes and Boston Celtics. When not engaged with March Madness Elmer enjoyed fishing, boating and collecting shells. He remained a member of the Dysart United Methodist church his entire life. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, his brother George and his wife Marge. He is survived by his two children, Randy and his wife Joyce and Tami and her husband Matt, four grandchildren, Kara and her husband Tim Sprague, Lora and her husband Freddie Arthurs, Kevin Cox and his wife Brittany and Kelli Bahr and five great grandchildren.
