Ernest Ray “Mac” McDaniel of Orange Park, Florida passed away on October 16, 2023 at the age of 100 with his family by his side. He was a man of strong faith and charitable giving. Mac was born in Washington, DC to Ernest Carlisle McDaniel and Maude L. Claggett. He joined the Navy during World War II and later went on to work for the Federal Government for more than 30 years. Mac was married to Betty Mae Flynn who preceded him in death after 54 years of marriage. He was a 60-year member of the American Legion and the 40 and 8 group in Newport News, Virginia. Mac was an avid sports fan starting with the Washington Redskins and Washington Nationals and recently the Atlanta Braves and Jacksonville Jaguars. He was also a master at rummy and schooled all of his children in the art of the game. He is survived by his daughters Nancy Lambert & Marty Schnabel (Bert) and his sons Kevin McDaniel (Linda) & Jeff McDaniel. Mac had four grandchildren, Perry Lambert, Sean Lambert (Megan), Kristyn Cabler (James), & Michael McDaniel, and five great-grandchildren, Lacie Lambert, Ryder Lambert, Bella Lambert, Luke Lambert, and Kyle Lambert. His family was his most precious treasure. Mac was dedicated to trying to help anyone in need, so in lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to your favorite charity on his behalf. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Dr. Tim McDaniel officiating. Military honors will be given at the service. Burial will take place at a later date in Newport News, Virginia.
