Gene T Callahan, Sr.

August 24, 1936 — December 23, 2020

Eugene (Gene) T. Callahan Sr., of Jacksonville, Fl., passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, December 23rd, 2020. He was born to Felt and Elizabeth Callahan on August 24th, 1936 in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from Andrew Jackson high school in 1955.

After high school, Gene spent a few years in the Air Force in which he was honorably discharged. His lifelong career began when he became a firefighter on the Jacksonville Fire/Rescue Department. He served on the department for over 32 years and retired as a Management Improvement Officer. During that time, Gene also owned a real estate business, Callahan Realty. He was married to the former Joan Schultz for 17 years.

Gene was a lifelong Gator fan, loved to play 3 card poker in Biloxi, avid golfer, shrimp and fish off of his dock and cook. Most of all he loved spending time with his friends and family. He lived life to the fullest.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Felt & Elizabeth Callahan and a brother, Gerald Callahan. He is survived by his son Gene (Susan) Callahan Jr., his daughter, Trudy Callahan, 4 grandchildren, Kelly (Nate) Kaufman, Kyle Callahan, Carrie (Daniel) Callahan and Emily Callahan. 5 great grandchildren, Parker, Kaiden, Ella, Tristan and Demi. 3 nephews, Tom Callahan, Johnny Miller and Billy Miller. 2 nieces, Judy Greenberg and Geralynn Wilson. Also too many friends to list.

Plans are being formalized to hold a memorial service in February of 2021. Anyone interested in attending, please email Trudy Callahan at [email protected] for the time and place.
