Evelyn Arledge Ayer (Sunshine), of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully on Monday, May 1, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Mill Spring, NC. Evelyn was a Christian, loving wife, mother, grandmother (Nana) and friend to all. She enjoyed making new friends and was an avid walker and reader. But her true love was her family.
On June 19, 1955, she married the love of her life Arlen Ayer and moved to Jacksonville. For a time, they also lived in Albany, GA and Newbury, NH; however, they always knew they would return to Jacksonville to be close to family. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Evelyn was the beloved mother of Richard (Mary), Paul (Ginger), Bryan and very dear friend Richard Walthour, and proud grandmother of Clifford, Kathryn, Lauren and Michael and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her loving husband Arlen (10/13/2007) of 52 years, parents Harley and Mattie Arledge, sister Nan Neal (Carl) and brothers Marvin (Dora), Ralph (Celia) and George Junior.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 3:00 pm in the Auditorium at Westminster Woods on Julington Creek, 25 State Road 13 (off San Jose), St Johns, Florida 32259.
You are invited to attend a reception immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in memory of Evelyn Ayer to Westminster Communities Foundation, 25 State Road 13, Jacksonville, FL 32259.
At a later date, she will be laid to rest with her husband, Arlen during an interment at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and friend who had the gift of making others feel special.
