Fernando (Nando) Vega Román, 79, died Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at his daughter’s home in Middleburg, FL. Fernando was born July 2, 1940, in Ponce, Puerto Rico to Francisco Vega and Luz María Román.
He graduated high school and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. After being honorably discharged, he worked as a bartender and later, he worked at Union Carbide Corporation. The company ceased operations in Puerto Rico in the early 80s. Nando moved to Texas City, Texas with his family. After a few years, he had a work-related accident, so he moved back to Puerto Rico. He then worked as an electrician in many construction projects throughout Puerto Rico and even St. Thomas.
Nando loved music. His friends and family knew him for his constant jokes, made up songs, dancing and all his long stories he loved to tell. He was an active member of the Capilla San Martin de Porres located in Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico.
Nando is survived by his children, Madga Vega-Vidal, Milka Vega-Vidal, Fernando Vega-Torres, Vanessa Vega-Torres and Reinaldo Rodriguez; 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Jose; sister, Anaida and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen E Torres-Hernandez; daughter, Mayra Vega-Vidal; parents, Francisco & Luz Vega and brother, Tony.
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Fr. Juan Alexis Diaz as Celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:30pm at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
