Father James A. Schiffer

April 8, 1941 — March 10, 2020

Father James A. Schiffer, Colonel United States Air Force (Ret) passed away March 10, 2020 after lengthy illness. He was born April 8, 1941 in Queens, New York to Francis and Joseph Schiffer. He was ordained a priest on May 28, 1971, in the Passionist Order.  He served 17 years as a missionary in the Philippines. Father Jim joined the United States Air Force in 1979 retiring after 24 years of faithful service to his country. After retiring from the United States Air Force Father Jim served as a parish Catholic priest in Albany New York diocese retiring in 2013.  Father Jim relocated to Fleming Island, Florida to be closer to his brothers. He was preceded in death by his sister, Maureen Butera.

He leaves behind his brothers Joseph Schiffer, Orange Park Florida; Eugene Schiffer (Alice) Ocala, Florida; nephews/Nieces -Michael Schiffer (Rhonda), Keith Schiffer (Ann), Steven Schiffer (Amy), Patricia Ives (Scott), Christopher Ingram, Theresa Butera, Mary Alice Butera, Charles Butera, Michael Butera (Maria), Tim Howard (Debbie) and numerous great nephews/nieces.  

A graveside service with military honors will be performed by Monsignor Simon Ignacio at Jacksonville National Cemetery on Friday, March 20, 2020 at 12:30pm.
