Frances W. Johnson, 99, of Orange Park, FL passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2022 surrounded by family.
Frances was born to Vina and Harry Wettig in Wilmington, NC. She grew up in a close-knit family with four sisters and two brothers. She graduated from New Hanover HS where she was a straight A student. She was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church. After graduation, Frances went to work as a secretary at the Shipyard in Newport News, Virginia. Upon returning to Wilmington, she met Victor R. Johnson. They were married in 1951 and had two children, Diane and David. They moved to Jacksonville, FL, then to Richmond, VA and then back to Jacksonville in 1981, where they joined the Orange Park United Methodist Church. Frances enjoyed travelling and spending time with friends and family. Her hobbies included gardening, tennis and reading. She loved playing bridge and made many good friends through her bridge groups.
Frances will be remembered as a loving sister, wife, mother, cousin, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a good friend and a gracious host. Frances always had a smile and a kind word for everyone.
Frances is survived by her daughter, Diane Gunnels (Richard); her son, David Johnson; granddaughter, Erica Singh; great-grandchildren, Korina, Gia and Benjamin; sister, Jeanette King and many nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance and celebration is being held at Orange Park United Methodist Church in Orange Park, FL on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 1:30 pm. A private interment with family will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date.
