Gay Mays

Gay Mays, 80, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away Friday, April 12, 2019 in Orange Park, FL.  She was born October 28, 1938 in Grundy, VA to Henry and Ida Sparks.  She married Leonard Mays of Wareagle, W.VA on April 6, 1957. She was a dedicated and loving Wife, Sister and Mother.  She loved to go on cruises and fish.  She enjoyed family time and watching her “Cowboys” play football.  She loved to be outdoors working in the yard.

Gay was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Mays; parents, Henry and Ida Sparks;  6 sisters,  Faye Sergent, Minnie-Ann Tatum, Ruth Ratliff, Belva-Jean Vanover,  Vagle Lester and Belle Reynolds and 1 brother, Estil Sparks.

She is survived by her 5 sons, Terry Mays (Susan), Steve Mays, Joe Mays (Rita), Gary Mays (Mary) and Paul Mays (Tiffany);  brother, Hershel Sparks (Hannah-Sue);  8 grandchildren,  TJ Mays,  Brittany Mays, Corey Mays, Josh Mays, Chase Miller, Ciara Miller, Cheyenne Miller and Ella Alger;  and 3 great-grandchildren, Landon Mays, Riley Mays and Kayron Mays.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm – 8:00pm on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, April 18, 2019 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Reverend Charlie Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery.
