Gayle Lee Vandiver

June 22, 1955 — March 3, 2020

Gayle Lee Vandiver 64, of Green Cove Springs passed away after a month-long battle with Cancer on Tuesday March 3rd at the Haven Hospice facility in Orange Park, fl. She is the daughter of Gordon and Janet Powell born and raised in the twin cities of Bloomington and Normal Illinois. She attended school in Bloomington and graduated from Normal Community High School. 

After graduation from High School she worked at State Farm Insurance company at their National Headquarters in Bloomington, Il until she transferred to their Regional Office in Plano, TX to follow her husband Bud who was transferred with GTE to their Teleops headquarters in the Dallas. Texas area. She and her husband both retired in December of 1993 and moved to the Magnolia Point Country Club where she was an avid golfer and active member until her passing. She also enjoyed tennis and loved to go out for a "Date Night" of dancing with her husband Bud. She was an avid reader of various types of novels. The Hallmark Channel movies were her favorite for Television viewing.

She will be remembered for her ever-present smile and a friendly nature that made her welcome wherever she went. These traits resulted in the nickname of "Sister Sunshine" and a long list of friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Gordon Powell. She is survived by her husband of almost 35 years Bud Vandiver, her mother Janet Powell of Green Cove Springs, daughter Molly Klafka and her husband, Jay and 3 grandchildren, Kylie 14, and Austin and Alyssa 11 year old twins Living in Temple, TX.
