George H. Park was born on August 20, 1928 in Orlando, Florida. As a boy he loved the outdoors, joined the Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout at age 14. In high school he played football as a blocking back for St. Petersburg High School. He was a combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served in both WWII and during the Korean conflict. He was a graduate of the University of Florida and graduated from seminary at Duke University. He spent 37 years as a Land and Forest Manager with St. Regis Paper Company. He was a City Councilman for the City of Milton, Florida for four years, he served as President of the Kiwanis Club, served as Chairman of the Northwest Florida Health Planning Council for three and served on the Executive Board of Salvation Army in Clay County for 12 years. He was a Chaplin at the Pavilion for three years at Penney Farms. He claimed his greatest ministry was as a teacher. He taught the adult Sunday school class for over 50 years…teaching, that was his passion. He served two churches as their pastor, Mount Tabor Methodist Church in Bahama, North Carolina and at Bagdad Methodist Church in Bagdad, Florida. He filled in for a number of other pastors over the years when called upon. His second greatest ministry was as a volunteer Chaplain for 21 years at Orange Park Medical. In Oct. 1950, he married Arlene Sullivan his wife for the past 67 years. He was a loving father who along with his wife raised three successful children, Elliot W. “Rusty” Park and his wife Denise, Sandra L. Park-O’Hara and her husband Colin O’Hara and Andrew J. Park and his wife Edie. He has three grand children, Aaron Park and his wife Dawn, Bethany Park and Ian Park, two great grand children Kyle Park and Kayla Park. He was once quoted as saying, “That one of Gods greatest gifts is family.”
A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm, Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Penney Memorial Church with Rev. Clifford Gilson and Sr. Chaplain Reese D. Edwards officiating.
