George Thomas Taylor, 77, went to be with the LORD on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Life Care Center of East Ridge, Tennessee.
He was born on July 10, 1947 and lived most of his life in Jacksonville, Florida.
He was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and enjoyed working to further the Kingdom of God. He taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. He also served as the church clerk, choir director, sound system operator, youth camp counselor, and worked in prison ministry for approximately 10 years.
He was an active member of the SMART Local #435 for 54 years. He graduated from his apprenticeship in March of 1967 and was initiated into the sheet metal union in March of 1971. During his career, he was promoted to a sheet metal foreman, in which he created and designed equipment for different companies, some of which were patented. To this day, his blueprint designs are used as reference guides for other sheet metal jobs. He retired from National Sheet Metal Company on March 1, 2006.
Some of his pastimes included spending time with his family and friends, cooking and fishing. He loved entertaining others with jokes and stories of his life. He hosted several family reunions which gave him the opportunity to show off his cooking skills, such as, barbecuing and fish fries.
During his stay at Life Care Center, he was known as the local artist because he spent most of his time creating crafts and painting. He also had the opportunity to teach a few art classes to his fellow residents. In addition, he enjoyed participating in activities, such as BINGO and getting a sweet treat from the ice cream parlor. He also loved playing checkers and dominos with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Carlisle Taylor; parents, George Thomas “Tommy” and Ella Bernice Taylor of Green Cove Springs, Florida.
He is survived by his children, George Thomas Taylor III (Rachael) of Ringgold, Georgia; Sharilyn Taylor (Bryan) James of Tutwiler, Mississippi; grandson, Nathan Taylor of Hamiliton, Ohio; granddaughter, Adelena James of Tutwiler, Mississippi; brothers, Perry Taylor (Debbie T.) of Waycross, Georgia; Danny Taylor (Debbie S.) of Green Cove Springs, Florida; sisters, Becky (Lowell) Ogletree of Jacksonville; Deborah (Ron) Raulerson of Bryceville, Florida; brothers-in-law J.L. (Janice) Carlisle of Williston, Florida; John (Alice) Carlisle of Jacksonville; Wayne Hopping of Williston, Florida; sister-in-law, Demeris Carlisle (James) Arrington of Williston, Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at Otis Road Church of God with the viewing at 10:00 AM and funeral at 11:00 AM, Friday October 18th with Pastor Stephen Thomas officiating. Burial will be at the Orange Hill Cemetery, Williston, Florida preceding the funeral services.
