Georgia McWhorter Frazer April 10, 1935 – December 4, 2024

Georgia McWhorter Frazer, a cherished educator, teacher, wife, and mother, died peacefully at the age of 89 at Penney Retirement Community in Florida. Surrounded by the love of her family, she left this world with grace and dignity on December 4, 2024.

Born on April 10, 1935, in Middletown, Delaware, Georgia demonstrated an early passion for learning and personal growth. She attended Tatnall School and Smith College before earning her undergraduate degree from Texas Christian University. She later obtained a master’s in education from Texas A&M University, furthering her objectives as a dedicated and inspiring educator.

Georgia’s career in education was marked by her co-founding of Saint Michael's Academy, an Episcopal day school in Bryan, Texas in the 1970s. She also taught at several schools in Austin and served as a standardized testing expert for the State of Texas. Her legacy as a teacher and leader in education continues to influence the lives of the students and families she served.

In addition to her professional work, Georgia was deeply committed to volunteering throughout her life. She was especially active at Penney Retirement Community (PRC), where she and her late husband, Joe, moved in 2005. Georgia became an integral part of the community, offering her time and energy to various campus activities, enriching the lives of fellow residents and staff.

Georgia’s vibrant spirit was evident in her many hobbies and interests. Early on she was a fierce and spirited field hockey player and girl scout. As an adult, she blossomed into a talented painter, a creative and expert seamstress, a lover of musical theater, and an enthusiastic choral singer. Her intricate work as a miniaturist showcased her artistic talent and love of fine detail.

Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, The Rev. Dr. Joseph H. Frazer, and her daughter, Lenore Frazer. She is survived by her brother, P.L. “Judge” McWhorter; her daughters, Mary Orsted, Hilary Frazer, and Georgia Frazer Clarke; her grandsons, John Orsted, Caleb Boberg, Nils Boberg, and Jeremy Boberg; her niece, Sarah McWhorter; and her nephew, Daniel McWhorter.

A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Association of Residents to support arts activities, or Penney Memorial Church to support choral activities, both of which were so important to her (c/o Penney Retirement Community).

Her memory lives in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She is deeply missed by her family.
