Geraldine Jeanette Chesser Suttle, 84 years of age, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away on Sunday July 24, 2022 She was born to Frederick and Edna Chesser on December 2, 1937, in Green Cove Springs, FL. She was the youngest of their 11 children. She graduated from Clay High School in Green Cove Springs, FL in 1956. She married to John Suttle on July 9, 1959. They were married 60 years until John’s passing in September 2019.
For most of her life she was a homemaker but did work for Eckerd/CVS drug store for several years later in life. As a child she attended Methodist church, but after her marriage she became a member of the Baptist faith, after her husband became an ordained minister in 1970. Her favorite pastime after retirement was spending time with her three friends- Lynn, Judy, and Donna. They would get together one Saturday a month to play cards and board games. After a time, they called themselves the “lady bugs” and continued this for many years. One of her favorite stories was just after graduating high school in 1956 where she acquired a job as a salesclerk at a men’s clothing store on Walnut Street in Green Cove. In August, 3 men came in looking for matching shirts. She quickly realized it was Elvis Presley with two of his backup singers. They were on the way for a concert in Jacksonville.
She is predeceased in death by her husband John Suttle.
She is survived by one sister Betty Chesser Ottinger; her daughter Jennifer Suttle Jackson; son-in-law Kristopher Jackson; grandchildren Jace Carpenter and Hanna Carpenter; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are scheduled for Friday, July 29, 2022, with visitation open to family and friends in the Broadus-Raines Chapel beginning at 1:00 PM, followed by graveside at Hickory Grove Cemetery where she will be laid to rest. Following the graveside service, food and fellowship will be held at First United Methodist Church, 500 Walnut Street, Green Cove Springs, Florida 32043 (at the corner of Walnut Street and Palmetto Street).
