Gladys Opal Varnes

Gladys Opal Varnes, 64, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2018 in Jacksonville, FL due to natural causes to go home to be with her Lord and Savior.  She was born to parents Henry Calvin Varnes, Sr. and Hattie Mae “Wasson” Varnes on March 9, 1953 in Jacksonville, FL.  She graduated from Technical High School with a Business Course Degree and worked all her life in the clerical administration field. Ms. Varnes attended Blanding Boulevard Baptist Church.  Photography was her passion everywhere she went and she will be remembered for her humor, love of the computer and a good heart. 

Preceded in death by her parents Henry C. Varnes, Sr. and Hattie Mae “Wasson” Varnes, 2 brothers, Henry C. Varnes, Jr. and Frederick “Freddie” C. Varnes. 

Survived by her brother, Thomas “Tommy” C. Varnes (Jewell) of Middleburg, FL, 4 sisters, Martha Florrie “Varnes” Richardson (Bill) of Middleburg, FL, Mary Ann “Varnes” Catanese (Larry) of Middleburg, FL, Candy Bettylou “Varnes” McCall (Bobby) of Middleburg, FL and Pauline Rosena Varnes of Jacksonville, FL and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, February 5, 2018 at Congregational Holiness Church with Pastor Ronnie Surrency and Pastor David Adair of Blanding Boulevard Baptist Church officiating.  The family will receive friends in the church from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.  Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, 3601 Old Jennings Rd., Middleburg, FL 32068.
