Gloria Kurtz, of Penney Farms, FL, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024. Gloria was born in Lebanon, KS, to Leon and Mary Wallace on May 22, 1936. Her father passed away when she was 2 years old. Her mother raised Gloria and her 3 brothers on her own. From these humble beginnings, Gloria graduated from the University of Dayton with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and also earned a Masters’ Degree in Education from the University of Toledo. She was a kindergarten teacher for 25 years, taught Sunday School, and held office in church women’s groups and various boards. She was also active in various community projects.
Gloria met Ivan when they were both still in high school. They married after Ivan graduated from college and were married for 68 years. They have 3 children (Tim, Gerry, and John), 5 grandchildren (Tony, Katya, Monty, Sophie, and Ridley), and 4 great-grandchildren (Camryn, Scarlett, Harper, and Lincoln), all of whom survive her.
Gloria and Ivan moved to Penney Farms in 2002. She volunteered at Penmor, Beyer House, Hagen, and the Pavilion. She also volunteered with the sewing group and weaving group and was a leader of the pine needle crafts. For her entire time at Penney Farms, she volunteered at PET Mobility Worldwide sewing seat covers for the carts.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Penney Memorial Church in Penney Retirement Community. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PET Florida - Penney Farms at https://mobilityworldwide.org/affiliates/florida-penney-farms/penney-farms-donate/
