Gloria Carver Lucas, aged 85, passed away on September 25, 2023. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and sister, and married to her lifelong love, Brad Lucas, for almost 65 years. She was the proud mother of 2 daughters and 5 grandchildren. She was born to Harold and Georgia Carver in Portland, Oregon on September 14, 1938, joining her two sisters, Janet and Marion. She lived in Portland until she attended Willamette University in the fall of 1956. It was here that she met Brad Lucas, and with whom she began a life’s journey full of world travel. Gloria and Brad traveled all throughout Europe as a young married couple, while stationed in Germany with the United States Air Force. This passion for travel would be something Gloria and Brad would then again share in retirement. They flew and cruised to Alaska, France, Hawaii and various countries in South America.
She was as strong as she was beautiful as she raised a new baby when Brad was deployed in Vietnam. As Brad continued to serve our country through many decades, Gloria was a constant support, while raising their daughters. She was the ultimate supporter of her family’s sports endeavors, which started with Brad’s college baseball, and continued with her daughters’ gymnastics and tennis, requiring hours and hours of driving and sitting on uncomfortable bleachers.
Gloria was stunningly beautiful and was named to the Rose Court in Portland, Oregon in 1956. She was a member of the Officer’s Wives Club, even walking the catwalk on their behalf. She worked as a Nurse’s Aid for the American Red Cross while in Germany. Later on she worked as a bank teller, but it was her time working for the American Lung Association for over a decade which brought her tremendous joy and camaraderie. She had a beautiful voice, for those lucky enough to hear it, was a talented painter, had the ability to create gardens with flowers worthy of a royal garden, loved bridge, golf (being a member of the hole-in-one club) and travel.
She was always a lover of cats and lavished love on those furry friends lucky enough to call her mom, just like her children.
Gloria is survived by beloved husband Brad, daughters Shannon and Megan, Son-in-law Clint, sister Janet, grandchildren Jett, Turner, Skylar, Alex and Isabel and her darling cat, Sugar. Her carefree nature, kindness, love and support will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Haven Hospice of Orange Park.
