May 2, 1943 – November 28, 2024
It is with great reverence and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of Herbert Heiser, age 83, on November 28, 2024. Born on May 2, 1943 in Queens, NY, and raised in Virginia Beach, VA, Herbert’s journey in life was one of service, loyalty, and love.
Herb’s life was marked by his devotion to his family and his country. As a proud U.S. Naval Master Chief, he dedicated many years of his life to the service of his country, carrying out his duties with unwavering commitment and grace. His service, both in uniform and beyond, earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.
Herb was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Weaver Heiser, his parents Herbert Heiser Sr. and Virginia Heiser, and his siblings Virginia “Ginny” Hopkins, Ed Hopkins, Edward Heiser, and Gary Heiser. He leaves behind a family who will cherish his memory, including his niece, Amy Thomas, his nephew, Troy Hopkins, grandnephew Ryan Akridge, grandnieces Kathryn Wiggins and Rachel Akridge, and great-grandniece Ellie Wiggins. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Susan Winsted and Ava Heiser.
Though Herb’s family was spread across the years and miles, he was never alone. His friends, like his best friend Mike Hrisko and others, were like family to him. Over the years, they shared laughter, wisdom, and the kind of deep camaraderie that only true friendships can offer. Herb’s lifelong ties to the close-knit community of Orange Park were a testament to his warm heart and his ability to create meaningful relationships.
Herb’s life was rich with memories, from his early days in Virginia Beach to his travels across the globe in service of his country. But it is his gentle spirit, his quiet strength, and his unwavering kindness and generosity that will be most remembered by those who knew him best.
In his passing, we not only mourn the loss of a man who shaped so many lives, but we also celebrate the legacy of love and loyalty he leaves behind.
He is deeply missed and will forever be in our hearts.
A graveside service will be held for family and close friends on January 3rd, 2025, at 2:30pm at the National Cemetery in Jacksonville.
