Herbert Wagemaker, Jr.

Herbert Wagemaker Jr peacefully passed away Wednesday August 10, 2022, at 92 years of age.  He was born to Herbert and Maude Wagemaker in Grand Rapids Michigan where he was raised. 

He graduated from Ottawa Hills H.S., Wheaton College, University of Michigan and Hahnemann Medical School (Drexel).

He married Mary Ann Lomel June 14, 1956, in Savannah, GA.

He, along with his wife started a Young Life Club at Terry Parker HS in Jacksonville, FL in 1962.  The following year they moved to Gainesville, FL where they brought Young Life to that community, and it became a lifelong ministry for him.  He even served on the National Board.

He was an athlete and played football, baseball, basketball and track and field in high school, competed in track and field in college and later in the master’s competition, continuing with running into his 70’s and was an avid tennis player.

He showed his love for Christ every day in both his actions and his words.  He never met a stranger and generously gave to everyone he encountered. He had boundless love for his family, especially his grandchildren and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Herb and Maude Wagemaker and his loving wife of 65 years Mary Ann Lomel Wagemaker.

He is survived by his daughters Robyn Riegler (Randy), Bobbi Howard (Billy), Lori Brennick (Layne), her grandchildren Alex Riegler (Kate), Andra Riegler, Hunter Brennick, Haley Brennick , James Howard Stanley, great granddaughter Olivia Riegler.

He was a medical doctor, psychiatrist, a disciple maker, a beloved husband, father, father-in–law, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

His memorial service will be on Monday November 21, 2022, at Christ Episcopal Church at 400 San Juan Drive Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082 at 11:00am.
