Herminio Blas Lopez, Sr.

September 2, 1940 — July 20, 2018

Herminio Blas Lopez, Sr., was born on September 2, 1940 to Monseretti Lopez and Jorge Blas in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. After graduating from high school he moved to the United States and began his chef training.  Herminio worked at numerous hotels and country clubs along the eastern coast line. While working at Hillcrest Country Club in Hollywood, Florida, he met and fell in love with Betty Jean Marshall. They were married on May 20, 1968 by Reverend B. L. Mack.  He accepted Christ as his personal savior under the leadership of Reverend Mack. They raised their family of six sons in the Hollywood area. Upon retirement, they moved to the Pier Station area where he joined New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and served on the Trustee Board.

Herminio departed this life for his heavenly home on Friday, July 20 at his home with his wife at his side.

Brother Lopez was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Welton A. D. Lopez.

He leaves to cherish his memories: A devoted wife, Betty Marshall Lopez; Five sons: Shawn P. K. Lopez, Orlando, FL; Jimmy E. Lopez, Sr., West Park, FL; Cole B. Lopez, Green Cove Springs, FL; Herminio B. Lopez, II, Hollywood, FL; and Lance C. Lopez, Margate, FL. Four grand-children:  Tontea L. Lopez, Coral Springs, FL; Ebony M. Chandler, Hollywood, FL; Jimmy E. Lopez, II, West Park, FL; and Laila Y. Lopez, Margate, FL. Four great-grandchildren: Amariyun Knighton, Adrian Knighton, Elijah Davis, Jr., and Ariana McFadden. Two sisters: Ana Lopez, Orlando, FL; Glorida Sanabria (Carmello), Aguadilla, PR. Three brothers: Manuel Blas (Valeria), Aguadilla, PR; Anibal Blas (Gladys), Carolina, PR; Saturnina Blas (Ada), Aguadilla, PR. Sister-in-law: Daisy Fussell, Davie, FL. Brother-in-law: Rev. Dr. Abron Marshall, Jr. (Felicia), Green Cove Springs, FL. Loving care giver: Sabrina Scrivens.  And a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday, July 27, 2018 at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. Dr. Abron Marshall, Jr. officiating.
