Howard Mathias

March 27, 1927 – March 11, 2023

Howard passed away March 11, 2023 in the Moosehaven Health Care Center at the age of 96.

He was born to John and Mary Mathias on March 27, 1927 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Howard was one of seven children.

Howard served our country from 1944 to 1951 in the US Army during World War II.  After returning state side, Howard began a career as a long-haul truck driver for United Van Lines. He was a Life Member of VFW Legion Post 280.

He married Jeanette Powers on June 14, 1970 in Chesapeake, Virginia. Jeanette preceded him in death on June 17, 2016.

Howard became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose on June 23, 1986 when he joined Chesapeake, VA Lodge #1940.  He received his fellowship degree on August 5, 2000 and served as Governor in 2002, Junior Past Governor 2003 and 2006, Prelate 2004 and 2007.  He was a member of the 25 Club sponsoring 34 members. Howard was a member of Moose Legion #199.

Howard and Jeanette came to Moosehaven on June 27, 2007.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 20, 2023 at 10:00am in the Moosehaven Chapel. Services conducted by Rev. Helen Taylor and Officers of Opportunity Lodge.

Howard is survived by niece, Jeanne Ringer of Englewood, FL.
