Hubert Earnest Woodruff, 83, of Bostwick, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2023 with his loving wife and family members at his side. Hubert was born to Eddie Burl Woodruff and Lelar Cloie Woodruff of Alexander City, Alabama on April 27, 1940. He married Glenda D. Brown of Blackshear, Georgia on November 14, 1959. Together, they had two daughters.
Shortly after marriage, Hubert was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Hubert took his military service training as a surveyor and applied it to his construction expertise. He worked with the Army Corp. of Engineers on many projects throughout his career. In the 1970s, he formed his first construction partnership. Eventually, he would perform the earthwork for the Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass. This changed the focus of this company to Golf Course Construction which took him all over the Southeast and to areas such as Barbuda in the Lesser Antilles.
Hubert was a great adventurer with such loves as Highlands, North Carolina and Alaska. He and Glenda took many trips with lifelong friends by their side. These friends were more like family, and the entire family thinks of them as such.
Hubert suffered a massive stroke in 1991 at the age of 51. This would leave him partially paralyzed and speech impaired, but did not quell his spirit. He was a fun-loving, family oriented man. During the time after his stroke he took up hobbies such as acrylic painting and jewelry design.
Hubert was preceded in death by his two brothers, James Homer Cantrell of Jacksonville, Florida and Eddie Junior Woodruff of Waycross, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Glenda Brown Woodruff; two daughters, Kimberly Ann Pardue, of Keystone Heights, and Jennifer Lynn Franklin (Scott) of Middleburg, Florida.
Hubert had a large and loving family that included five grandchildren, Meaghan Pardue Jankowski (John) and Matthew Pardue (Amber) of Keystone Heights; Justin Yoder and Taylor Yoder (Gabrielle) of Middleburg; and McKenzie Yoder Phillips (Trenton) of Macclenny; two great-grandchildren, Mason Jankowski and Christian Yoder, with a third set to arrive next month; as well as in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews that were very special to him.
Memorial services will be Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 11:00am in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Dr. Tim McDaniel officiating. Military honors will be given at the service.
Family will receive relatives and friends after the service at another location.
