Ila Jean Marquitz
Ila Jean Marquitz, also known as “Mama”, of Fleming Island, FL., peacefully passed away June 14th 2021, at age 74, in her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born May 26, 1947, to the late Lena Maxine Hathcock and Leo Marshall Sr., in East St. Louis, IL.
Ila grew up with the spirit of a fighter, as her brother Leo would say “she won 199 fights, but that the 200th time was the last one”. Unfortunately, cancer was her last epic fight before leaving our world for a better one. She had an extraordinary eye for interior design and style, along with an undeniable talent for transforming the blandest of things into works of beauty. She enjoyed her time as a flight attendant, traveling, golfing and making memories with the ones she loved most.
Ila will be remembered for her fiery personality, strong will and genuine heart. She is survived by her daughter Janelle Snyder and husband Steven, of Fleming Island, FL., her brother Leo Marshall, of Lake St. Louis, MO., sister Janet Fortney, of Springfield, MO., three grandchildren: Kyle, Nicole and Samuel Snyder, of Fleming Island, FL., along with her niece and nephews.
Ila’s family will be hosting her Celebration of Life Thursday, July 15th, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at the Piazza Messina, 5535 Hwy N, Cottleville, MO., 63304. A service in her honor will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a celebration to follow. A memorial donation honoring Ila may be given to ASPCA, your local Humane Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
