Jack Eric Clanton

February 28, 1959 — August 3, 2017

Retired Clay County Lieutenant Jack Clanton, 58, passed away suddenly from pneumonia on August 3, 2017. Jack spent 28 years in law enforcement, mostly with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. The decorated lieutenant was passionate about his work, and every time he was on duty he took a personal responsibility to keep the community safe. Among his accomplishments, bringing down one of the county’s largest drug houses, and rescuing a missing child while arresting the kidnapper. Jack was named “Officer of the Month” nearly a dozen times. He was like a gentle giant with a tough exterior and a heart of gold. His career was cut short in 2010 when he was seriously injured while apprehending a suspect. Jack was an avid sports fan, playing, coaching and officiating. He was passionate about youth athletics and all charitable causes benefiting under privileged children.Jack met his soul mate, Kathy Bartz when they were both 13-years-old. The high school sweethearts were married for 36 years. He always referred to Kathy and their two daughters as “his girls” and they were truly the light of his life. Jack also cherished his four grandsons. Their Papa picked them up from school, took them swimming and on adventures. His best buddies gave him so much joy. Jack is survived by his wife Kathy; daughter Whitney Clanton-Cox (Daniel); son-in law- Isaac Stevens; grandsons, Nolan and Colton Cox, Jackson and Harrison Stevens; Mother-in-law Marianne Bartz and numerous brothers, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. We take great solace knowing Jack is now in heaven with his beloved daughter Ashley Stevens, who passed away in 2014. Funeral services are set for Monday, August 7th at 12:30 p.m. at the Plantation Oaks Grand Banquet Hall, 845 Oakleaf Plantation Parkway. Lunch Reception to follow.
