Jack Leon Doan of Green Cove Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on September 10, 1939, in Dana, Indiana, Jack was the beloved son of Arthur Issac Doan and Virginia Nell Hunt Doan. He graduated from Clay High School in 1958 and soon after married the love of his life, Carolyn Jolley, on June 11, 1960. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Jack began his career working at an auto parts store before becoming a skilled Volkswagen mechanic at Spring Motors, where he dedicated 20 years of service. Later, he worked as a civil servant at N.A.S Mayport, maintaining and repairing cranes for aircraft carriers. His career then took him to N.A.S Jax at N.A.D.E.P., where he excelled as a metal fabricator crafting aircraft parts. His work ethic and dedication were a testament to his character.
A proud member of Cabul Masonic Lodge No. 116, Jack lived his life with integrity, loyalty, and a generous spirit. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including fishing, camping, traveling, pitching horseshoes, solving crossword puzzles, restoring cars, and building dune buggies.
Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Jolley Doan; granddaughter Heather Hill; his parents, Arthur and Virginia Doan; his brothers Jerry, James, and John Doan; and his son-in-law James Householder.
He is survived by his sisters Carolyn Sue Newman and Ruth (Mark) Baysinger; children Julia Gilbert, Kristina Householder, Jack (Lana) Doan, and Donna (James) Hill; grandchildren Haley(Sean) Householder, Zachary (Kelsey) Householder, Quintin (Jennifer) Gilbert, Kyle (Kate) Doan, Allison (Curtis) Smith, Cecilia and Rachael Doan, and his "favorite redhead," Meghan Wilkes; and great-grandchildren Adeline Grace Householder, Alex, Emma Lucille, Emelia Jaymes, and Henson Huck Eichholz, Jonah Jack Gilbert, and Ashton Michael Fife. He also leaves behind his best friend of over 60 years, Snap (Glenda) Blocker, as well as sisters-in-law Frances (Reggie) Wells, Becky Jolley, and Carolyn Jolley, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack’s home was the heart of family gatherings, where he welcomed 25 to 50 loved ones for cookouts, fish fries, and oyster roasts. The weekends were filled with laughter, horseshoe matches, and storytelling around the fire pit, with his famous "liars’ bench" as a gathering place.
Jack’s adventurous spirit was legendary, especially the tale of a dune buggy escapade with Reggie Wells involving the "acquisition" of a bonfire. While the story remains shrouded in mystery, it is a testament to his playful and mischievous nature that his family and friends adored.
Jack Leon Doan leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unforgettable memories. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know him.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am on Saturday, January 11, 2025, in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am with Tom Doan officiating.
