James Roy Cantrell, 76, also known as Pop-A-Top, was born in Pikeville, KY, on December 28, 1947. He passed away at Orange Park Hospital on April 4, 2024, surrounded by his family. Although James was born in Pikeville, KY, he later resided in Chicago, IL until moving to Green Cove Springs, FL in the 1980’s, where he spent the rest of his wonderful years. James had a passion for driving and started his career in the United States Army, later continuing to drive school buses, church vans, and semi-trucks. However, his proudest accomplishments and contributions were his family. He was married to his beloved wife, Wanda (Thacker) Cantrell, and together they raised two daughters, Kimberly Swope and Jessica Dreist. He enjoyed spending quality time with his friends, family, and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Woodrow and Irene Cantrell, son James Roy Cantrell Jr., granddaughter Amanda Swope, brother Racine Cantrell and daughter Jessica Dreist. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wanda Cantrell, daughter Kimberly Swope (Victor), 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. James was always willing to lend a helping hand or teach others anything they needed to know. He had a warm and loving personality that impacted the lives of those around him. His family will remember him for his kindness and love. James will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A funeral service will take place at 1:00pm on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Decoy Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until service time.
